Self-awareness: Are you aware of your own emotions? Can you put your feelings into words? How self-confident are you? Do you recognize the impact of your emotions on others? Do you know how others influence your emotions?
Self-management: Can you control your emotional impulses? Are you transparent (and should you be)? Are you able to think before acting?
Social awareness: Are you able to empathize with others? Can you recognize and relate to what others are going through? Can you see situations from the perspectives of others?
Relationship management: Are you able to build rapport with others? Are you an inspiration to others? Can you develop your team? Are you a catalyst for change?
Are you emotionally intelligent? No matter what your level of "EI," you can build on it! Look for opportunities to get in touch with your emotions. Then, notice how you are feeling when dealing with the highs and lows of your day. The next time you speak with a client, prospect, or a member of your team, listen--really listen--to what they say and try to hone in on the message behind their words. Finally, strengthen your relationships by asking questions--get to know others on a deeper level.
